AAMSU burn effigies of Sonwoal, Sarma
The All Assam Minority Student Union (AAMSU) irked over the state government's budget placed by Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during ongoing budget session of Assam Legislative Assembly on July 26 last.
Expressing dissatisfied with the budget plan, hundreds AAMSU activists and citizens burnt effigies of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minster Himanta Biswa Sarma today at Joypur along the JD Road in Kokrajhar.
Student activists with banner, placards shouted slogans against government and demanded early people's welfare budget for the state, besides termed budget was anti people because it couldn't established state's growth and welfare, specially Minority community has been deprived from the budget place.
Anowar Hussain, president of Kokrajhar district AAMSU said the budget placed for the 2016-17 was not acceptable for the a section of community in the stste, specially minority community have been deprived from this plan.
'There was nothing special schemes or plan have included for minority community in the budget. It was unfortunate for the community that state budget has been declining to provide development welfare fund in the state', he said adding that government should withdraw it's budget plan so that equal development and distribution could be availed in the state.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar.
