AJYCP has strongly lashed out at Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday alleging his stoic silence in his Independence Day speech on the main issues confronting the state for decades.
In a statement issued here on Monday, AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar said the main issues have eluded in his speech. He said, “Sonowal is mum on the decade old demand before the Centre to announce flood and erosion as a national problem.” He said that the nowhere in his speech he announced any measure to contain the galloping prices of essential commodities which is really disappointing.
Sonowal has drawn more flak from AJYCP for his silence on the controversial move to accord refugee status to the foreign nationals. “He reiterated his pledge to implement the Assam Accord and to complete the process to update NRC. But he failed to allay the fear of the impending exodus of the Bangladeshi nationals who are going to be a huge burden on the state. It suggested his lack of courage and confidence that the controversial move will not disturb the demography of the state,” said Talukdar.
AJYCP criticised the BJP Chief Minister for not saying anything on the statewide protest against the auctioning of 12 marginal oilfields in Assam.
