Five held in Kokrajhar

In a major breakthrough, security forces apprehended five persons, including two militant cadres at different places within 24 hours in operations in Kokrajhar district of lower Assam.

Shyamal Prasad Saikia, Kokrajhar SP while addressing reporters at a Press Conference held at SP office on Wednesday said police administration has been taking stern action against militant and anti social activities. Saikia said that security forces police, CRPF cobra battalion arrested a cadre of KLO from Chautara under Gossaigaon PS on Tuesday during a search operation against militant outfit. The arrested was identified as Sanjit Chandra Barman of Chautara village. Two hand grenades were recovered from him. Based on information regarding movement of NSLA cadre, a NSLA cadre identified as Anjoy Murmu was arrested from Mornoi tea estate in Gossaigaon subdivision.

In yet another operation conducted by Kokrajhar police along with Jagiroad police, two vehicle thieves were arrested along with a stolen Bolero vehicle from Jagiroad. He said,the two were identified as Muslim Sheikh of Fakirganj in Dhubri and Abdul Kasim of Howly Joupur in Barpeta. The two tried to ferry the stolen Bolero vehicle to Dimapur in Nagaland. The vehicle was hired from Kokrajhar town on the pretext of going o Guwahati.

The two later gave a sleeping tablet to the driver and left him at Chaygaon in Kamrup in unconscious state. The vehicle was found through the GPS in the vehicle. The two confessed of committing the crime saying that they usually lifts vehicle and sell it to buyers in Dimapur,Saikia said.

In another separate incident, ATM thief identified as Biju Singh of Pandu(ward no-7, near CRPF camp), Guwahati was arrested from Kokrajhar town near Assam Oil depot yesterday. & stolen ATM card were found from his possession. Singh, who originally hail from Uttar Pradesh, confessed of stealing ATM cards along with one Chintu Ali, also of Guwahati. It was a successful of police administration in the district during 24 hours, Saikia added.

ISPL 2022: Bodoland lifts trophy

Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) team won the trophy defeating Lai Autonomous Council (LADC) of Mizoram 1-0 in the final match of inter sixth schedule premier league -2022 being held at SAI SAG center,Kathalguri Titaguri in Kokrajhar district. Sonam Basumatary of Bodoland Territorial Region scored the lone goal against Lai Autonomous in 51 minutes of the second half. This led his team to win the tournament 1-0. Sahitya Akademy for Indira Boro

Professor Indira Boro, head of the department of Bodo for Bodoland University, has been named for an award from the Sahitya Akademy for translation in Bodo language. Dr. Boro has been named for the translation of her book Hirimba (originally written in Assamese by Jayanti Gogoi) Presently, Boro is the head of the department of Bodo at Bodoland University. She has authored many books in Bodo language and contributed a lot to the uplift and development of Bodo literature. MLA Mevani produced in court in Kokrajhar

Amid a strict security vigil, arrested Gujrat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani was brought to Kokrajhar police station and later produced before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court. Mevani was sent into police custody for three days. Mevani was arrested late last night in Gujarat by Assam Police after BJP leader Arup Kumar Dey filed an FIR with Kokrajhar police station. Ganja smuggler sustained bullet injuies

KOKRAJHAR: A Ganja smuggler was shot at by police in the Bishmuri area of Kokrajhar district late Wednesday night. The incident happened  in Kokrajhar in Bishmuri. The victim was rushed to the RNB civil hospital in Kokrajhar. Mukesh Kumar of Bihar was identified as the victim. KOKRAJHAR: The police nabbed three people with 91 Kgs of Ganja on Karigaon national highway in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.. The arrested persons were identified as Hasanur Rahman, Mithun Miya of Mankachar and Mukesh Kumar of Bihar. The smuggled Ganja was bound for Bihar from Agartala in a Scorpio vehicle, bearing registration no.BR 11V-7551.

Hagrama Mohilary, BPF chief, released on bail

BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary was granted bail on Saturday and released against case CR 34/2020, accused of section 120-B/500 IPC from CJM court in Kokrajhar. Pramod Boro, the president of the United People’s Party of Luwahati, filed a complaint against  Mohilary, the former chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, at the court of CJM Kokrajhar for making derogatory remarks about him in February 2020. The bail was granted by Kokrajhar's chief judicial magistrate.
