The demand for Bharat Ratna to Dr Bhupen Hazarika has revived in Assam as the state observed the 90th birth day of the music maestro on Thursday.
The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has demanded the country’s highest civilian award posthumously to the legendary musician who died a couple of years back. Talking to Assam Times in Guwahati, AASU leaders said that only the BBharat Ratna would be the real honour for Bhupen Da.
The demand is not new. But the Centre never has been considering the award to Bhupen Hazarika forcing many organizations to demand it.
The 'Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024', a five-day cultural extravaganza showcasing Northeast India's richness, kicks off on January 13 at Bharat Mandapam.
