Devotees throng Puja venues

Devotees and visitors throng to the Durga Puja Mandhaps on the Maha Saptami day of the ongoing Durga Puja celebration in Kokrajhar,heart of BTAD administration.

Over 150 puja mandhaps have been erected in the entire district this season,of which around 70 mandhaps are in Kokrajhar town with colourful design of the Goddess Durga.

Strong security arrangements have been made during the puja celebration in the district, said a senior police official in Kokrajhar.

Devotee and well wishers thronged since early morning on the Maha Saptami day at the puja mandhap erected at the house of BTC executive member Rajib Brahma along JD Road at Maibong Nwgwr in Kokrajhar.Pundits hailed from Kamakhya temple of Guwahati performed Durga Arodhana and prayers as per mythology of Durga Goddess.Brahma’s family has been organizing Durga Puja since few years to offer worship and devotion to Goddess Durga mother on the occasion, said Jyotika Brahma, organizer of the puja mandhap.

‘I prayed for peace and integration among all sections of communities during puja celebration in the region. Earlier, my family organized the puja mandhap inside the home, but this year, mandhap has been arranged openly for public’, Brahma said.

Kokrajhar main bazaar organized 146th Puja Mandhap with vivid programme scheduled to offer devotion to Goddess Durga.Depot Road Sarbajanin Durga mandhap erected 70th Durga Puja with Durga statue from Kolkata of West Bengal.Subashpalli Sarbajanin Durga Puja mandhap organized Golden Jubilee with varied puja programme schedules.

KOKRAHAR: A sense of alarm has gripped the Jharbari area after a timber smuggler was discovered dead in a firing incident during the early hours of the morning in Kokrajhar. Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district.
