AKRSU slams govt for delays of ST issue

Hiteswar Barman, president of All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union(AKRSU) slammed BJP led state and centre government for not taking initiative while bringing solutions of Six ethnic communities,who are demanding granting of Scheduled Tribe(ST) status.

The 36-hours Assam bandh,called by Six Janagostiya Aikhya Manch affected normal life in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

Barman while talking exclusive with this correspondent in Kokrajhar during the bandh our told that the government had announced to submit report on frame work of modalities for granting ST status to the Six communities in the sttae by October 15,but government tactically delayed to the issues.He said that the government had held several round on the ST status issue with demanding groups,but no fruitful results recahed out so far. He has claimed that government forced us to call Assam bandh and agitation programmes to put pressure government for our demand and issues because government declining to solve our issues.

He said that government’s expert committee was supposed to submit its report on modalities regarding ST status to Sic communities of the state by October 15 last,but till today no any positive step was saw to the frame work.He has warned for vigorous mass agitation if government fail to grant ST status to the Six communities of the state in earliest manner.

He said that the Aikhya Mancha decided to hold a special convention at Guwahati on October 31 next, mass dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on November 10 next besides holding several agitation programmes for the cause of ST status issues.

The bandh affected normal life in Kokrajhar,heart of BTAD administration. Financial institutions like Bazar,shops,banks remained closed,most of the government offices saw closed and road communications have been remained off on the day. Private vehicles along the town road saw fly with thin.The bandh affected mostly in Koch Rajbongshi dominated areas in the district and its adjoining areas. No any reports about occurrence of untoward incident was reported till filing of this report during the bandh hour in the district.

KOKRAHAR: A sense of alarm has gripped the Jharbari area after a timber smuggler was discovered dead in a firing incident during the early hours of the morning in Kokrajhar.
