Cash overpowers voting

Dire need of cash and harvesting season have resulted in the poor turn out in Lakhimpur Lok Sabha by polls on Saturday if a cross section of the voters is to be believed.

Sashi Saikia in Dhemaji is worried a lot. The native villager in Jonai is tired of remaining in the queue for Rs 2500 in front of the banks. But of no avail. She could not withdraw money which is why she blamed it on all the NDA Government.

“At least Modi should have thought of the common people before taking the decision. How will we help him?,” she told Assam Times.

Ajit Saikia in Cemen Chapori is equally angry and worried. He needs to harvest his crops. He wants money in cash. But his patience is running out after standing in queues for 7 hours for Rs 2000. “Need cash, need to harvest the crops. How will I vote today? Let me finish my works first,” said Ajit.

Another women Nirada Gogoi told Assam Times that the people, mostly, in the rural areas are shying away from voting. “Some of them for remaining in long queues for cash while some other prefer crop cutting to casting vote.

“We did a lot. All parties are selfish. At a time we voted Congress to power. We got nothing. Last time we favoured BJP. But got more and more misery. Why do we make another queue to vote,” said Gogoi.
