Assam defies diktat, observes R Day

Defying rebel diktat tricolour is fluttering in the sky of Assam to mark the country’s Republic Day on Thursday.


Amid unprecedented security measures Assam governor B Purohit unfurled the tricolour and took salute of the march pass of army, police, para military forces and NCC at the Veterinary playground in Khanapara.


Cabinet ministers and legislators also hoisted the flag in the district and sub divisional headquarters in the morning to be followed by some cultural shows.


Similarly, various government offices, schools and colleges, clubs and offices hoisted the flag to join the country’s Republic Day celebrations.


Notably, ULFA along with others active north eastern rebel groups announced strike and gave boycott call of the red letter day.
