Modi, Sonowal ending rejig logjam

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is holding a meeting with prime minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to end the logjam over the cabinet rejig.

Senior party leaders in New Delhi and senior cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ate also present. Modi is believed to have stressed efficiency and clean image which might force Sonowal keep of his loyalist colleges to be shunted.

Initially, the list was with president Amit Shah who scanned it acting on the inputs he received from RSS and state BJP unit. Then he sent it to prime minister Amit Shah to take up the issue with the chief minister.

Party leadership in New Delhi are believed to have been unhappy with a section of his cabinet colleagues for their performance.

“Amit Shahji is not happy with the performance of a few ministers whom he wants to be shunted. Then he wrote to Modiji for taking up the case with the chief minister who is holding talks to end the deadlock,” said a senior BJP leader in New Delhi.

“In fact, the party president and prime minister both workaholic and performing ministers to approach the people with clean image before the Lok Sabha polls.

“A few of those who are found to be under performing or inefficient are closed to even chief minister while some others whom Himanta Biswa Sarma wants to be inducted lack clean image. That’s the problem as Amit Shah was scanning the names of the proposed ministers,” said a senior BJP leader in Guwahati.

Both Sonowal and Sarma reached New Delhi on Wednesday evening where the prime minister is believed to have sought some changes before giving his final seal of approval. Then the duo are expected go back to Guwahati for seeking an appointment with Governor BL Purhit.
