Healing Festival pulls huge crowd in Dimakuchi

The four day Prayer and Healing Festival is closing which was organized by the banner of  Dimakuchi Christian Forum and Assam Soul Winning ( ASW ) in Guwahati.

The speakers include Daniel Matt's Becrude and Mia Christine Helgem, a native of Norway which pulled huge crowd from beginning to end.

Many of those who attended the programme claimed to have some relief and spiritual satisfaction.

Assam Guv bats for improved waterways

Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit sought the Centre’s assistance in improving and revamping the inland waterways to propel State’s development. Calling on Union road transport & highways and shipping minister Nitin Gadkari yesterday in New Delhi, the Governor also cited that the mighty Brahmaputra and Barak rivers along with their tributaries constitute the life-line of the people of the State.

Giving highest priority to develop National Highways in Assam and to use it to act as a force multiplier to the State’s development, Governor Purohit drew the Union minister’s attention to the existing road conditions in the State especially in Barak valley and demanded Centre’s immediate intervention.

The Governor apprised Gadkari of the prevailing conditions of NHs particularly in Barak Valley and impressed upon him on how the NHs in the State need an immediate face-lift to act vigorously as a harbinger of State’s economy.

The Union minister told Governor Purohit that he would visit Assam shortly and hold a meeting with the high level officials including the State chief minister and other stake holders to draw a road map for Centre’s intervention for NHs. Gadkari reiterated his priority to the development of road & waterways in Assam.

AASU gets new guard

The All-Assam Students Union is changing its faces with Dipanka Nath and Lurin Gogoi. The formal announcement is expected on Friday. Nath will replace its president Sankar Prasad Roy will Lurin Gogoi will be the general secretary in place of Tapan Kumar Gogoi.

The executive body of the student organization cleared the list of the new office-bearers at the end of the Goalpara convention on Thursday night.

Nath has been an active AASU leader for the last several year while Gogoi, a doctoral student of mathematics with Dibrugarh University is a former general secretary of the varsity’s Postgraduate Students' Union.

Be positive, says mountaineer Anshu

Mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa, who climbed to Mount Everest twice in five days recently, opined that positive thinking always helps an individual in achieving expected goals. Attending the ‘Meet the Press’ program of Guwahati Press Club on Saturday morning, the young mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh also added that a strong determination and dedication to one’s work cam make an individual successful.

Anshu, who is yet to be 40, created the world record being the first woman to scale Everest twice in five days. The mother of two children also made the national record of conquering the top of the world for fifth time. Her husband Tsering Wange, who is based in Bomdila and a former president of All Arunachal Pradesh Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association, remains helpful for the climber in all aspects.

Prior to the interactive session, Anshu was felicitated by the members of the press club with a traditional Gamocha and Japi. She expressed her gratitude to the media fraternity all along her career. Earlier Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit and State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal felicitated her in separate occasions.
