GUWAHATI: Congress leader and former chief minister Tarun Gogoi strongly criticized the BJP led Assam government alleging in human eviction drive in Amchang wildlife sanctuary, Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, Gogoi said the Sonowal government failed to convince the High Court to buy more time to rehabilitate the settlers before evicting these people who are, mostly, the flood and erosion hit Mising people.
Gogoi said,"the ruthless eviction drive has exposed the BJP which came to power with a vow to safeguard the interest of the indigenous people. But only to be rendered homeless. We demand measures to compensate these hapless people."
"The way these people are being evicted from the wildlife sanctuary is unfortunate," said the former chief minister.
