HAFLONG: An eerie silence continues to dominate Maibong four days after the railhead in Dima Hasao district witnessed ruthless police firing on a huge crowd of protesters who blocked a passenger train bound for Guwahati.
Local organizations, political parties and individuals are still demanding action against DC and SP who asked the policemen to spring upon the protesters.
"The situation is under control. We have relaxed the curfew for a couple of hours. There is no report of any untowered incident during the last three days. If this situation is restored we would lift the curfew," said a senior district administrative officer in Haflong.
Security forces are patrolling on the streets to prevent gathering of protesters in Maibong and Haflong.
On the other hand, the Northeast Frontier Railway has yet to resume the movement of trains from Silchar to Guwahati saying that the tracks would be repaired and restored in a day or two.
Two persons succumbed to injuries when the duo along with thousands of people blocked a passenger train in Maibong railhead on Thursday in protest against the revelation of an RSS activist who claimed to have suggested the Centre to virtually annex the Dimasa dominated hills district into the proposed greater Nagalim.
