DIMAPUR: Normal life remains heavily disrupted in Nagaland following a statewide bandh call on Thursday by the civil society organizations opposing the ongoing poll process without resolving the decade old confronting Naga settlement issue.
Roads in this restive north eastern state started wearing a deserted look from early in the morning when the bandh call was enforced. Security forces are only moving on the streets to deal with possible outbreak of law and order mess. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices have remained closed under the impact of the 12 hour bandh.
Amid water right security, the state election office is opening with thin attendance of employees in Kohima. The returning officers are being guarded heavily in their offices. But nobody has come to the offices to collect necessary papers to file the nomination papers.
The Election Commission has issued poll notification inviting nomination for the February 7 voting defying the boycott call of the civil society organizations who on Wednesday evening confirmed the bandh call resolved on Monday.
The civil society organizations at a meeting in Dimapur on Monday got a joint declaration signed by the major political parties to refrain from participating in the upcoming assembly polls before a final settlement of the decade old confronting issue.
BJP pulled out of the declaration a day after it at the instance of the central leadership. The party's state leadership are holding talks with the central leaders in Delhi to find a way out.
