KOHIMA: Defying boycott call 253 candidates have filed nomination papers for the upcoming Nagaland assembly polls slated for February 27. These include 5 women who turned up on the last day on Wednesday. The total number of candidates are set to be finalized only on February 12, the last day for withdrawing of the papers.
All major political parties, including the Naga People’s Front, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Nationalist Congress Party have fielded candidates while local parties have no done it promising support to the joint declaration on the poll boycott call.
Mainstream political parties who have made it include BJP, Congress, JD(U), NCP and AAP along with the two big regional parties such as Naga People's Front (NPF), Nationalist Democratic People's Party (NDPP) and NPP.
