Villager dead in elephant attack
NAMRUP: After a brief gap, wild jumbos again have started unleashing a reign of terror in Namrup area killing a villager forcing the authority to step in.
The incident took place at Panichukia Bongaon where a herd of wild jumbos sneaked into the human habitate in search of food and during the reign of terror, these wild the wild jumbos faced villager Joseph Orang at midnight and trampled him to death.
The panic stricken villagers then called up the department which rushed some guards to disperse the elephants to the Joypur reserve forest by bursting fire crackers.

People in the Namrup daily bazar paid their homage to the Pulwama martyrs.
The programme was organsied by daily bazaar shop keepers assoctiation and local people of the area.
The 11 hour Assam bandh called by North East Students Organization ( NESO ) and All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) , supported by many other organizations opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 was total in Namrup. The town wore a deserted look as vehicles of all kinds remained off the road. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, banks and offices were seen closed. The bandh supporters burnt tyers at Namrup Sonari Tiniali , BVFCL Main Gate , APL Main Gate and Sarmah Tiniali to stop the movement of vehicles.
The Namrup regional unit of All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) organsied protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 by blocking the road and burning tyers at Sonari tiniali. The demonstrators shouted slogans against the state and central governments exibiting play card "Kendriya Government Hai Hai, Raijya Sarkar Murdabad, Mukhyamantri kam nai". More than one hundred AASU activists and local people took part in the protest.
The year long Golden Jubilee of Namrup Sahitya Sabha is coming to an end with various cultural programmes. The programme was inagurated by working president Satrasingh Deuri. Seminar, poetry, cultural night, Book release were part of the event.
Namrup: AASU regional Committee observed the Swahid Divas on Monday with hosting of flag in Namrup Sonari Tiniali Swahid Mandap by regional committee president Kalpajit Gogoi. Polling concluded peacefully in the three panchayats - Kachari Pathar, Namrup and Santipur Panchayat - with 75 percent voter turnout. Situation became tense when more than 50 voters were deprived from voting in Santipur.

The largest ancient Hindu festival, dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya (known to be the wife of Surya), Chhath Puja is unique to the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the country of Nepal.
