Kaziranga to remain closed for tourists from May 16

Kaziranga National Park will be closed for tourists from May 16.

A notice issued by Divisional Forest Officer Rohini Ballav Saikia on Friday said "Kaziranga National Park will remain close for visitors from 16th May, 2019 untill further orders".

NDFB arrested

Police apprehended a hardcore cadre of NDFB(Songbijit faction) this evening from Haltugaon Balajan under Kokrajhar police station in Kokrajhar.

The cadres has been identified as Swmkhwr Basumatary.  A 7.65 point pistol,a grenade and bullets was recovered from him, said a police officer.



Yoga Day celebrates in Kokrajhar

Despite heavy rain since early morning, peoples from all walks of life throng to participate in the Second International Yoga Day celebration in Kokrajhar, heart of BTAD administration, was celebrated with befitting manner along with rest of the world and country on Tuesday. Participant and yoga fans express their gratitude for getting Yoga opportunity on the day. Assam Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, lighted the lamp to inaugurate the Yoga Day celebration at KDSA Indoor stadium, being organized by Kokrajhar district administration in association with Patanjali Yoga Samiti in the presence of Madhav Prasad Sarma, Kokrajhar DC, LR Bishnoi,ADGP, SP Shyamal Prasad Saikia and other officials. Thousands yoga fan and people from all walks of life including elderly persons, women, and children participated and performed yoga on the day aiming good health and social integration. In separate celebration at Rashmela ground, Madhav Prasad Sarma, Kokrajhar DC inaugurated the day with lighting the lamp in the early morning, which was organized by BANDHU, a NGO working for social development among society. In Commerce College, Yoga Day was celebrated, organized by Art of Living and yoga fans and citizens participated. Minister Brahma said that Yoga is very much essential for human life to get strong health living and free from diseases. She has extended her best wished to all participant and citizens on the International Yoga Day celebration.

‘It is a day for common peoples to getting opportunity for yoga among society across the world. We must have yoga habit to make our health and physical to be free from diseases and strong health. I think, people would be benefitted through this yoga camp which was being celebrated across the world today’, Brahma said. Sarma said that the day was celebrated with befitting manner in the district and peoples from all walks of life participated with enthusiastic. We have organized the day centrally at KDSA Indoor stadium and arranged full prepared to mark celebration a grand success.

LR Bishnoi, ADGP and IGP (BTAD) and Shyamal Prasad Saikia,SP Kokrajhar while participating the celebration at KDSA stadium extended their best wishes on the occasion and hope that the day will bring awareness about building of strong health and integrated feeling in the region.

‘Let, it be celebrated across the world through which human life getting awareness about building integrated health care and social uplift in days to coming’, Bishnoi said.

Hiteswar Barman, president of AKRSU while taking part in the celebration at Rashmela ground said that Yoga is an essential part of life through which human life can gain strong health care. He said, ‘It is an opportunity to be part of the day celebration in Kokrajhar where thousands yoga fans thronged and performed yoga on the day’, Barman said.

‘We are getting knowledge tips through the international day celebration to keep our health strength through performing Yoga. Citizens much follow yoga tips every day to make human life strong and tiptop’, he added.

Festival of Indigenous Music, Games and Culture enthralls Dimapur

DIMAPUR: Films, music, ethnic food and ethnic game competitions marked Tribal Vaganza – a two-day festival of indigenous games, music and culture – which concluded late last night in Dimapur, spreading the need to promote our dying folk culture amongst the youth of the region for posterity. Organized by Abiogenesis Society, the festival Tribal Vaganza was held with the support of North Eastern Council, Shillong.

The festival saw the release of the much anticipated film, ‘Enter My World’, which has been written and directed by Arenla Subong, the popular female vocalist of thrice Grammy nominated band Abiogenesis. Releasing the film, Nagaland Minister for Higher & Technical Education & Tribal Affairs Temjan Imna Along said that the husband-wife duo of Moa and Arenla Subong have brought laurels to the State of Nagaland and said that the youth of the State and region should emulate their achievements.

Temjen Imna Along also urged the youth of Nagaland to be hardworking and carve their own destinies. He said, “Today’s Nagaland is a broken Nagaland where youngsters are lazy and always looking for a shortcut”, adding that “change can only come to the State when the youth shun laziness and if they start working hard with diligence”.  “If you are determined, willing, hardworking, persistent and consistent, God and the whole world will work to make you successful”, he said.

The film, ‘Enter My World’, is a Howey Music Film that is based on the immensely popular brand of Howey Music that has been invented by Abiogenesis. Featuring a host of popular actors from Nagaland and also from Assam, the film touches on important issues like Assam-Nagaland border dispute, dying folk traditions, the importance of traditional knowledge in the daily life of tribal societies, etc.

Tribal Vaganza is an initiative of Abiogenesis society to make the youth of Nagaland and Northeast aware about the rich culture, folk traditions and indigenous games of the region, besides promoting upcoming bands of the State.  

As part of the indigenous games competition, a bamboo pole climbing competition was held wherein 20 participants took part. The winner of the pole climbing contest, Hankhüm walked away with a cash of Rs. 10,000 while the runner up, Sorito R received a cash of Rs. 5000. The musical concert featured Fiddlecraft from Pune, the Rewben Mashangwa band from Manipur, Trance Effect from Dimapur and Abiogenesis.
