GU releases Law journal

Guwahati: The Faculty of Law,Gauhati Univerdity released its two acclaimed journals viz. The Gauhati University Journal of Law (GUJL) and Vidhijyoti on Tuesday in the Conference Hall of the department.This was stated in a press communique by the Dept. of Law,Gauhati University.The programme anchored by Dipankar Das where welcome speech was delivered by HoD of Dept. of Law,Gauhati University, Subhram Rajkhowa commenced with the singing of the anthem of Gauhati University, 'Jilikabo Luitore Paar' followed by a Saraswati Vandana. Speaking on the occasion after releasing the Faculty Journal,State Minister Minister of Education,Law and Justice, Siddhartha Bhattacharjya said, “ Law is an evolving subject and changes with demand of time. With the advent of technology courts have moved from typewriters to modern tools reducing the burden of researchers and subjects like cyber law have floated. He further stated that knowledge of law does nit only create lawyers or law officers in corporate, but moulds a person as a good and responsible citizen. Expressing satisfaction over the journals previously published by the department he expressed great hopes that the department will carry forward the rich legacy. Rector,Gauhati University, Prof. H.P Sarma while releasing the Vidhijyoti a research journal appreciated the endeavour of the department in publishing such journal. Registrar-in-charge,Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta reiterating the glories of the University lauded the wholesome effort of the departments and said that Gauhati University has made both qualitative and quantitative growth in the recent past which has fetched it A grade by NAAC and it boasts of its high rank in government universities. The event attended by faculty members,students of different law colleges under the university along with advocates and research scholars concluded with vote of thanks by Sripama Rajkhowa a faculty of the department.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.  AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang  to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two  others for not wearing masks. TANGLA: A  devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm. UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by  Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition. While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
