BJP taking huge lead

Guwahati: The ruling BJP is taking huge lead in the state where Congress is talking initial lead only in 2 seats.

AIUDF is leading in Dhubri and Karimganj while AGP is leading in Barpeta. BJP is leading in Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Nagaon, Diphu, Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Mangaldoi and Silchar.

Congress is leading in Kaliabor and Guwahati while AGP is taking a comfortable lead in Barpeta.

HC notices to N’land govt, Centre

The Dimapur incident that sends shock and anger across the north eastern region has reached the  Gauhati High Court.

The court has issued directives to the Centre and Nagaland government asking for adequate security inside and outside the jails to avoid the March 5 like situation where a rape accused was dragged out of the Dimapur Central Jail to be lynched on the street.

The court directive was issued acting on a public interest litigation moved by Rajib Kalita on Monday. a division bench of the court further asked the Nagaland government and Centre to submit a report before it.

Kalita in his PIL further sought a CBI probe into the entire incident to be monitored by the court.

No support for Sangma in NE: Gogoi

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that none of the prominent leaders from the Northeast has any support for PA Sangma in his race for the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Addressing a press conference in Delhi on Wednesday, Gogoi said that Sangma has received hardly any support from any prominent leader from the region. Gogoi said that he has respect for Sangma as a leader but failed to understand his strategy to bid for the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Eerie silence in Rangapara

An eerie silence is prevails in Sonitpur district a day after tea garden worker beheaded a minor boy in the name of puja offering to the god before being lynched by mob.

According to police, the accused had a dispute with the father of the victim. The incident took place a day after the two families had quarrel. Later in the evening, he allegedly dragged the boy into his house and hacked him to death with a machete and also beheaded him.

The bizarre incident took place at Rongapara area where Nanu Mirdha in the Tarajuli Tea Estate beheaded Sanatan Bag at his residence.

When the shocking news started spreading like wild fire, the local residents in large number raided his residence, dragged him out and lynched him.
