Kokrajhar ready for NRC

KOKRAJHAR: Citizens of the state are much awaited to see the final draft of NRC publication on Saturday . Along with rest of the state, BTAD districts are all set to publish the final draft of NRC with smooth and healthy environment.

In Kokrajhar, NRC final draft would be published in 97 NRC Seva Kendra (NSK) in the entire district.

A total 48 NSK have been identified as sensitive centre out of the 97 NSK.

Strict law and order arrangements have been made and security vigil are also made to maintain peace and integration during the final draft of NRC publication in the district.

An awareness meeting on NRC draft publication was organized at Basic Training Center in Kokrajhar on Friday where various organisation, students union, senior citizens participated.

The meeting was organized by district administration, Kokrajhar which saw discussed deep on the proper implementation of the NRC final draft lists publication.

Chirang district administration has also made strict law and order arrangements in the district.

Beijing Olympic famed boxers feted by CM

Beijing Olympic bronze medalist boxer Vijender Kumar along with other boxing heroes Jitender Kumar and Akhil Kumar were today given a formal felicitation by the Chief Minsiter Tarun Gogoi at his residence at Khanapara hillside in Guwahati this morning. The star attractions of the inaugural function of the 4th Asian Sr. Women Boxing Championship held at KNCB Indoor Stadium Sarusajai Sports Complex were feted with the traditional Axomiya phoolam gamoocha, wooden replica of one horned rhino the pride of Assam and a flower bouquet and also the tradition taamor Sharai. Praising Vijender's knock at Beijing Olympic 08' C M Gogoi handed over a cheque to the talented boxer as a reward. Gogoi and Boxers interacted while CM's officials and Cultural affairs Minister Bharat Chandra Narah and Goutam Roy also joined. The boxing heroes also shared light moment with the media persons at the drawing room of CM's residence. While speaking to this correspondent the boxers revealed that the majestic natural beauty of the place diverse ethnic culture moved them. All of them wished to come Assam in an unofficial tour to visit all the major tourist destination.

Lifer for Dhaula Kuan rapists

In yet another landmark judgment, a trial court on Monday sentenced five persons to life imprisonment four years after they gangraped a girl from Manipur on a moving vehicle at Dhaula Kuan. Additional sessions judge Virender Bhat announced the quantum of punishment a couple of days after they were convicted in the shocking case. The five convicted men — Shamshad alias Khutkan, Usman alias Kale, Shahid alias Chhota Billi, Iqbal alias Bada Billi and Kamruddin were present inside the court when the quantum of punishment was announced for the offence. They were sentenced to seven years imprisonment for abduction charges while five other years rigorous imprisonment for charges of criminal intimidation apart from also imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 each on all the convicts. The relatives and defence counsels have already decided to move the high court to challenge the judgment. The incident took place in November in 2010 when the call centre employee who hails from Manipur was forced into the vehicle near Nanakpura gurdwara at 1.21am to be gangraped and dumped in a semi-conscious state in Mongolpuri Industrial Estate in the wee hours.

Guv Purohit visits Chirang

Assam governor Banwarilal Purohit visited Chirang district with two programme on Sunday.

On the first day of his visit to Chirang, the governor Purohit held meeting with the district administration, including police and other heads of the departments on various issues related to education, agriculture, PHE at BGR Manash Guest House at Dhaligaon. He took stock of the prevailing law and order and the development activities being done by various line departments.
 
In this connection, power point presentations on district profile and security position of the district was arranged from the district administration.
He asked the officials to be transferent, punctual and honest in their offices even in their personal life. He further asked them to solve the problems of the pubic expeditiously.

The governor met the delegations of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, BPF, UPP (L) and SHGs to acquant with the grievances and problems of the people. After hearing the problems and  grievances of all, the Governor said that he would take up the problems with the state and central governments.

Tomorrow, the Governor Profit will take part in the Swacch Bharat Abhijan programme to be organised by the Chirang district administration at Dhaligaon Bazar area at 9 am.
