7th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2019 Begins

The 7th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2019 has commenced from Thursday at Pragjyoti ITA Centre in Guwahati.

Renowned film personalities and stalwarts such as Imtiaz Ali, Shobita Dhulipala, Paoli Dam, Karan Oberoi, and many others will take part in the four-day festival. The schedule includes film screenings, interactive sessions, panel discussions, film quiz and much more.

The Festival Director, Tanushree Hazarika delivered the welcome address. Imtiaz Ali, Shobita Dhulipala, Paoli Dam, Pratim D. Gupta, Shiladitya Bora and Nicholas Kharkongor addressed the opening day press conference. While Imtiaz mentioned that the simplicity and the innocence of the people of Assam is so heartening and welcoming, that it makes him want to visit the place again and again, Shobita looks forward to be a part of a film that would be screened at the festival in the future. Paoli mentioned that she was really was grateful that she could be a part of this festival.

An opening ceremony with M Choir from Mizoram performing, took place with the special guests of the festival being felicitated. ‘Shantilal O Projapoti Rohosyo’ directed by Pratim D. Gupta was the opening film.

The movie starring Ritwick Chakraborty & Paoli Dam is about a deadbeat weather reporter & a glamorous and ambitious movie star. When their worlds collide, it turns into a rollercoaster adventure ride from Kolkata to Chennai to Singapore. By the end, a new detective is born.

A short film ‘Aapke Aa Jaane Se’ directed by Shiladitya Bora was also screened beforehand.

Over the four days of the festival, acclaimed films such Daughters of the Polo God, Strawberry Point, Widow of Silence, The Least of These: The Graham Staines Story , Picasso, Jacqueline I Am Coming, Nana: A Tale of Us will be screened.

T for Tajmahal by Kireet Khurana will be the closing film of the festival.

NDFB-S announces new National Council

The NDFB-Sannounced newly formed National Council that held on April 14 and 15,2015 in the general Assembly of the outfit with B Saoraigwra as president and BR Ferrenga as general secretary along with other 17 council members. 

The other council members are G Bidai as vice president, D Rebgon as Home Secretary, NE Esara, Foregin Secretary, I Sulung,Publicity Secretary, B Dwmwilu, Finance Secretary, B Sohaithab, Asstt Finance Secretary, BL Dinga Organising Secretary, B Sujugiri, Education Secretary, B Belarwm, Cultural Secretary, B Biban, Agriculture Secretary, B Dwithai, Social Welfare Secretary are given portfolios in the national council. 
The new national council held six joint secretaries along with portfolios who are included B Alayaron, public relations officer, M Mwnabili, sports, W Radab,education, M Muluksha, information and publicity, B Sinaihang, Home and Miss B Rwmwi Rwmwi as Women Welfare. 
B Saoraigwra, president of the new national council stated in a press released that the outfit uphold sovereign existence of Bodoland and freedom of Boro people with our distinct identity. He said that the new national council members has formed to fight for the liberation of sovereign, independent Boroland with strengthening our policy. We are all (Ndfb-s)determined to restored our culture, language and historical right, Saoraigwra said.

Nominations filed for Nagaon Civic polls

Altogether 314 candidates filed their nomination papers for the Nagaon Municipality Board elections as well as Town Committee seats at Dhing, Kampur, Raha, Lanka, Hojai, Dabaka and Lumding respectively. The elections to be held on July 31 next.


For the Nagaon Municipality Board 67 candidates for 26 wards, Dhing town committee 25 candidates for 10 wards , Hojai Municipality Board 52 candidates for 19 wards, Kampur town committee 30 candidates for 5 wards , Raha town committee 30 candidates for 7 wards , Lanka town committee 31 for 11 wards, Dabaka town committee 39 candidates for 13 wards , and Lumding Municipality Board 52 candidates for 13 wards filed their nomination papers to the concerned authorities.


Meanwhile, Nagaon district administration has geared up for the smooth conduct of the civic polls.

BJP condoles activists’ death

The body of Gopi Gogoi was identified a day after it was found floating on the Brahmapputra river in Guwahati on Monday.

His family member identified it on Tuesday after the post mortem at GMCH three days after he left his home on Khowang for Guwahati to attend the Narendra Modi rally.

State BJP has expressed shock at the mysterious death of the its activist along with Ananta Hazarika who died after falling from a moving train carrying him back to Dibrugarh from Guwahati.
