Newly elected Asom Sahitya Sabha President Kula Saikia has opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act. Saikia, who retired as Assam DGP in November 2019, said that the Act could not be accepted. Speaking to media he pointed out the people of Assam including the apex literary body of the state have been protesting against the Act since 2018. “This very Act is unacceptable,”he said. A Sahitya Academy awardee Saikia also hoped that the BJP-led Central government would pay heed to the protest in the state.
