The beautiful river island Majuli misplaced on this planet is not sleeping for the last week in the din of the Raas festival it is proud of. Krishnavandana is what rents the sky in this capital of Vaishnavite culture. People of all castes and creeds are thronging in thousands to get the taste of this festival that conjures the feeling of wonder and admiration for the Lord Krishna.
Even the people from outside and abroad are getting a glimpse of the religious festival the river island is observing amid much fanfareand extravanza. Samoguri satra, the name synonymous to mask art steals the thunder while its staging Sankardev’s Keligopal that made thousands of people spell-bound. The festival has come across one hundred years at the Aauniati satra. The festival has crossed 168 years at the Dakhimpat satra which is still proud of being the first one to celebrate this festival.
According to the satra officials, “the first ever Raas festival in Majuli was observed in Dakhinpat satra.”
This time has 56 stages to observe this festival. Only in Garhmurh, there is two stages.
The festival gets more colourful as it is being observed in some tribal areas. It may be recalled that Pitamber Devagoswami of the famous Aauniati satra is considered to be the pioneer of the festival on the stage.
