ULFA military chief Paresh Baruah is said to be critically ill. The reported appointment of Raju Baruah, his second in command, as the new head of the organisation’s military wing definitively indicates the seriousness of the situation.
Reports coming in from sources said Baruah contracted multiple illnesses in Myanmar on his way to attend the martyr’s day observed by the organisation. A combination of jaundice, cerebral malaria and another kind of fever led to a fast deterioration of Baruah’s health and he had been unconscious for the past couple of days without much indication of recovery. Sources are unwilling to confirm whether he is alive or dead. Meanwhile, the security agencies have not commented on the matter so far.
