The magazine Friends is a sincere effort by the Non residents of Assam towards the upliftment of the Students and youths of the North East India. Once again Ulfa springs surprise. In a significant move that gives Congress some sort of relief, the banned outfit has decided not to give bandh call to disrupt the visitofprime minister Manmohan Singh slated for April 7. This was what Ulfa publicity wing leader Arunodoy Dohotiya announced at a statement e-mailed to assamtimes on Tuesday. The announcement further suggests that ULFA will not oppose the visit of Dr Singh on April 11 to cast his vote in Dispur. It may be recalled that for the first time Ulfa has not urged the people not to participate in the poll process.
For the first time, the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has not urged the people to partitipate in the election. But only threatened to target the Congress accusing the ruling party of splitting the outfit. The overground cadres of ULFA have not exercise their franchise in the Assam Assembly polls. The outfit has made it simple and clear that they had already announced that it would maintain a neutral stand.

Over 85 per cent voters excercised thier franchize in the first phase of assembly polls in 62 constituencies covering 13 districts on Monday. Amid a mammoth security arrangement, polling began at 7 in the morning in over 11,000 booths which ended as soon as the clock struck at 3 in the afternoon.

ULFA's anti-talk faction calls a 24 hour statewide Assam bandh in protest against Prime Minister DR Monmohan Singh's visit to campaign in Assam for the Assembly polls. In a statment issued to media, the outfit's publicity wing leader Arunodoy Dohotia said prime minister has gone back to what he promised earlier and that he failed did not discuss Assam sovereignty to end the deace old confrontation.
