Poet's meet at Bokakhat

A national poets' meet is being organised under the auspices of Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with JDSG College authority, Bokakhat on November 21, where a number of luminaries from across the country will get together.

Twelve renowned poets from outside Assam most of whom are Akademi Award winners, are likely to participate, besides many distinguished poets of Assam.

Meanwhile, the JDSG College, Bokakhat is preparing with full might to organise the meet smoothly. Mridul Boruah, convenor of the organising committee, who himself is a poet of repute, informs that several sub committees have already been formed and all are working sincerely to make the programme a success. A souvenir is also proposed to be brought out to commemorate the occasion. Contacts are being made with Sunil Gangopadhyay, Gulzar, Jay Goswami and Jayanta Mahapatra for their presence on the occasion.

Hope this meet will analyse the recent trends of Assamese Poetry and effects of the local, global and technological paradigms on poetry in general and Assamese poetry in particular. Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) will announce the results of the HSSLC (Science, Commerce & Vocational) Examination, 2013 May 4. Result will also be available on Internet at www.mbose.in.
Congress MLA Rameshwar Dhanowar's son-in-law Dijen Panika and three of his associates namely Rupak Bora, Prakash Kurmi and Jiten Karmakar were arrested by Bokakhat Police under section 506 IPC on Tuesday for their alleged misbehave and gun fire in the air outside a roadside eatery near Kaziranga National Park (KNP. Panika is the president of Assom Chah Mazdoor Sangha, Bokakhat unit and executive member of Golaghat District Congress Committee.
Jorhat Medical College (100 seats) and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (FAAMC), Barpeta (100 seats) has got permission from the Medical Council of India (MCI) for 4th year and 2nd year admission respectively for the academic year 2013-14.The Assam Combined Entrance Examination (CEE), 2013 will be held on May 18 to be conducted by Dibrugarh University. A 4-year-old student, Fatima Bibi, studying at Kristo Jyoti school, Bokakhat has been suspended from school for wearing hijab. Her parents got a notice from school that "Either abide by rules or don't send your child to school." The school principal Father Jose Verghese told "rules are for everyone, No high, no low, no rich, no poor, school cannot relax the dress code for one child". Fatima's parents are now approaching Guwahati High Court for her daughters right to Hijab in the school.
Assamese heart throb Zubeen Garg's new hindi album "Pakeeza" has released today in Mumbai with eight numbers of romantic songs in this Rangali bihu season under the banner of Times music. The album was released in Guwahati Medical College auditorium during the event of Prag Cine Awards on last friday. The songs are in the album are 1. Kehkasha, 2. Chalte chalo re, 3. I can live for u, 4. Piya mori, 5. Piya jiya, 6. Pakeeza pakeeza, 7. Kafur, 8. Rama rama. The video promo of the title song track is also released which getting is huge response. Pakeeza music CD will available in market from Monday onward. 
Assam won by 8 wickets (with 25 balls remaining) beating Tripura in the East Zone Twenty20 match (Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy) played on March 19 at  Agartala. After wining the toss Assam chose to field first. Tripura scored of 122/9 in 20 overs. Assam crossed the target in 122/2 in 15.5 overs with the help of PP Das 58 runs.  With this wining Assam collected  4 points. Assam won by 7 wickets (with 4 balls remaining) against Odisha on the 1st match on March 18.

Assam won by 5 wickets (with 24 balls remaining) against Kerala in Vijay Hazare Trophy at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on March 2. Assam won the toss and chose to field at first. Kerela was all out in 48.5 overs with the score of 197 with the help of  VA Jgadesh 89 & RV Gomez 51 runs. From Assam side PL Das & G Sharmah took 3 wickets each. In 2nd innings Assam crossed the wining score within 46 overs & 5 wickets  remains. Tarjindar Sing'sh 49 & G Sharma's 51 helpd Assam to win the game. Assam will play final against Delhi in the same ground on March 3.
In a major relief, Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the HSLC examiniees who have taken ill in the food poisoning incident need not appear Monday's examination. Dr Sharma tweeted “We will conduct a special exam later so far as tommorow's paper is concern. These students have to appear rest of the exam as scheduled. For all other students across state, HSLC exam starts from tomorrow as scheduled and as announced earlier”.
An exhibition of handloom products titled "Basanta Mela"  is going on at NEEDFi Haat from February 8. This is organsied by Gouri Handloom. The event is exhibits several handloom products, food items, etc.A salaad making competition was an attraction of the event on Sunday where married couples took part and displayed their culminary expertise.
