GNRC opens First Pain Clinic of Assam

The GNRC Hospitals has recently opened the First Pain Clinic of Assam. Prof. U C Sarma, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences, Assam, inaugurated the clinic in the presence of medical experts and media personnel on December 17 in the city.


A two-day national seminar on Pain Management was also organized at GNRC Hospitals, Guwahati on the occasion. Titled as PAINCON 2011 the seminar was addressed by several resource persons of National repute.


The physicians say that the pain is a curse to the mankind. Conquering pain in any form has been a great challenge for the entire human race. Through indomitable spirit and constant endeavours, mankind has already accomplished considerably to alleviate the curse of pain. In essence, pain medicine has evolved as a distinct specialty in modern medicine.


Presently, pain medicine is a young and rapidly evolving multi-dimensional concept in modern medical science. Commendably, India, as a country has become a global forerunner in this mission. Unfortunately, we, in North-eastern region have been oddly lagging behind due to lack of organized effort, training facilities and trained manpower.


Renowned teacher Prof. R.M.A.M Bora and Prof. A.K. Deka were felicitated during the event. The other guests of honor included Prof. Debojit Hazarika, Prof. H H Dash, Prof. A Hussain, Prof. P Bhattacharyya, Dr. Gautam Das and Dr. P Mehta. Dr. NC Borah, CMD of GNRC Hospitals was also present in the seminar.


“GNRC aims to create an academic environment in the field of pain management and to train a group of manpower to become pioneers in this field in the near future. The GNRC Pain Clinic is a gift to the people of this region so that they can lead a life free of pain. The Pain Clinic will help people in lessening their sufferings without going out of Assam,” informed Dr. NC Borah.
