Man proposes but god disposes - the tragic story of Poulomi
The tragedy of Poulomi Kashyap proves the saying like no other. Poulomi a brilliant student of Salt Brook Academy in Dibrugarh and an examinee of Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination. Poulomi was born on June 26, 1993. She passed HSLC examination with distinction in the year 2010 from Little Flower School, Dibrugarh. A pall of gloom descended in Golaghat, her ancestral place and Dibrugarh when the H.S. results are declared today with Poulomi securing 82% with letter marks in all the subjects but she was not there to partake in the jubilation.
The cruel snares of death had taken Polulomi far away from her family and friends along with her father. It was on May 17 when Poulomi was returning to Dibrugarh from Guwahati along with her family after appearing in the entrance examination of integrated M.Sc in psychology of Sikkim Central University when a massive collision of their vehicle with a dumper near Bokakhat took away two precious lifes, of Poulomi and her father Barun Hazarika, a Development Officer of LICI Dibrugarh. She had always nurtured a dream to be a psychologist and the good news was that she secured 4th rank in the entrance examination Poulomi’s mother Mintu Moni Hazarika and her little brother Tathagata (7) are still undergoing treatment at Jorhat Medical College Hospital and wish them a speedy recovery. All we can say to Poulomi is congratulation and may your soul rest in peace.

Anurag Rajkumar, a H.S. Second year student of D.R. College, Golaghat, was found dead under suspicious condition at a hotel room at Dimapur in Nagaland. According to the sources, Anurag who studied in D.R. College by staying in his relative’s house at Golaghat was missing from 22nd July. On the next day Anurag’s family filed a missing person report in Golaghat Police Station. On the night of 23rd July, Anurag’s family came to know from an unknown source that Anurag has been found dead in a hotel at Dimapur. The matter is still under investigation.
A poacher was killed by the police at Kanchanjuri near Kaziranga National Park in the night of 23rd July. According to sources during the course of regular checking of vehicles by Bagori Police Station, a Tata Sumo bearing registration No. AS-06/E-5082 did not pay any heed to police signal to stop and speeded away. The poachers deserted the vehicle at Kanchanjuri and tried to escape towards Kaziranga National Park and started firing at the police team who were following them. In retaliation police also fired at them killing one of the poachers named Piku Ali and injuring one Bashar Ali. The police arrested five persons from the spot. Police also recovered a pipe gun from the poachers.
Flood situation in Kaziranga National Park, the only World heritage Site in Assam, is again taking a disastrous form. With the rise of water level in the river Brahmaputra, new areas have come under the threat of flood. Nearly 70% area under Burapahar range of KNP is being water logged. Borpathar police in association with Merapani police on 18th July arrested a person named Intazul Hussain who is believed to be engaged in illegal arms trading. Its important to mention here that On 16th July police arrested one Safir Ahmed, another illegal arms dealer, from whom police recovered a 9 mm Pistol and three live cartridges. On the basis of information given by Safir Ahmed, Borpathar police arrested Intazul from Merpani area of Golaghat Dist. The incidents of rhino killings in Kaziranga National Park, which have shaken the nation, has now been investigated by the country’s supreme investigative agency CBI. It is important to mention here that last year twenty rhinos have been killed by the poachers and in this year also the poachers have already killed seven rhinos. Apart from poaching, the massive erosion caused by Brahmaputra and the encroachments made by suspected Bangladeshi immigrants are worth mentioning.
