Remove SP, DC: Demands APCC

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday demanded removal of Kokrajhar DC and SP alleging that the duo failed to ensure safety and security of the lives of innocent people killed in ethnic clash. In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Kokrajhar, APCC vice-president VL Karna alleged that the district administration miserably failed to bring the situation under control.

Escalating protest in Lakhimpur

Five days have passed since a woman was brutally attacked and dumped on the roadside in Lakhimpur who succumbed injuries at the GMCH. But police have yet to arrest the perpetrators which runs into a hail of protest accross the state.        Thousands of people have been staging dharna in Lakhimpur demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.            The protestors made it clear that they would remain calm only after the examplary punishment of the perpetrators.    The incident took place in Boginadi when the mother of 8 year old child was brutally attacked after she got into a tempo on her way to take her child back from school.      Hours after, she was dumped on the roadside.         On Saturday she was rushed to the GMCH where succumbed to injury on Monday.

Assamese musician wins Bronze

Bangalore based Assamese musician Jim Ankan Deka's music video 'Aawaz - speak up against sexual violence' has won the Bronze Medal at the 'Global Music Awards - 2014' held at San Diego, California. Aawaz is the only video from India which was nominated for the event.
 
'Aawaz - speak up against sexual violence', the music video, was released online in June, 2013 with an aim to sensitize people of various social evils like sexual violence, child abuse and marital rape, Since its release, the song had won four awards including Best Music and Best Music Video at three international film festivals. 

The song was originally composed for a rally in Bangalore in 2012 following the death of the Delhi gang rape victim. The lyrics of the song are penned together by Jim Ankan and singer Ritwika Bhattacharya from Ranchi, Jharkhand. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs (2009) finalist Antara Nandy from Kolkata has rendered her vocals to this cause along with Ritwika and Queen Hazarika, another famous singer and actor from Assam

The music video is directed by Bangalore based writer and director Parmita Borah. Parmita Borah along with Antara Baruah and Rachel Rose Oommen acted in the video which includes three short stories dealing with violence against single as well as married women and child abuse. This collaborative project involves noted artists from across India.

Rijiju hopeful on peace process

Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju is hopeful of the peace process with ULFA

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday, the junior home minister said that the recent round of peace talks with ULFA leaders was conducive and that it the process is allowed to move forward it would give a positive result.

He further said that the boundary impasse would be over in near future.
