Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) Dima Hasao District Committee and BJP is going to stage a joint Dharna on 27th November 2012 in front of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao, Haflong protesting the extension of the term of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC), which is now being ruled by the Executive Committee headed by Mr Debojeet Thaosen, the Chief Executive Member of (DHAC) and demanding the holding of general election to the Autonomous Council immediately, stated a press release issued jointly by Suraj Naiding, Joint Secy, ASDC Dima Hasao District Committee, Haflong and Him Bh. Chetri, Gen Secy, BJP Dima Hasao Dist Committee, Haflong on Saturday.
The press release maintained that the five-year term of the present elected members of the DHAC in office is going to expire in December 2012 and it is high time the Government of Assam to issue the notification for holding the Council election in Dima Hasao district. But the Government has still not set the date for the election in the district despite the time for declaring the election being due which amounts to the fact that Government itself is violating the norms of democracy in Dima Hasao district, besides meting out step motherly treatment to Dima Hasao in socio-economic aspects. Further, the ASDC and BJP of Dima Hasao district criticized the present Congress (I) –ruled DHAC for the delay in repairing the deplorable condition of even the main roads such as that road between Haflong and Diyungbra which is lifeline for the people of this Hills district and alleged that corruption and nepotism seemed rampant under various departments in Dima Hasao district. The parties also strongly demand the immediate payment of salaries of the employees in Dima Hasao district.
Prakanta Warisa, media in charge of Dima Hasao DCC (I) on behalf of Congress Coordination Committee, Dima Hasao and Dima Hasao District Congress Committee released the election manifesto of 11th N C Hills Autonomous Council in a press meet held at Rajiv Bhawan on Thursday.
