Health awareness campaign at Duliajan

Holding placards scores of students rallied through Duliajan Township on Friday to spread the message related to protection of girl child and mother-child health etc. The rally was a part of health awareness campaign organized by  Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dibrugarh with a view to make people aware about health schemes run by government.

The campaign organized at Duliajan BM Junior college campus in co-ordination with Prasiddha (NGO) and Surjudaya (NGO) and the main awareness meeting was held in continuation with college’s second foundation day. Presided over by Principal Bulimoni Neog, the number of resource persons educated the students and others about National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), the Indian health program for improving health care delivery across rural India.

A view of health awareness meeting held at Duliajan B M Junior college organized by Directorate of Field Publicity, Dibrugarh at Duliajan on 21.12.12Programmes like family planning, child birth, immunization, Janani Suraksha Yojona, Janani Sishu Suraksha Karyakram, Mamoni, Majoni, Adorani, Mrityunjoy etc by which the government has brought a boon for the society. Due to the health mission, deliveries are taking place properly and health of the children is also taken care of. The benefits include free ambulance service, free medicines at the time of delivery and Rs. 1400 is also provided to the expecting mothers in rural areas. The health centre under NRHM scheme also organizes periodical free mobile medical camps with all facilities including ambulance services, blood tests, X-rays, Ultra sound and dental care in several villages.

Earlier Pranab Kumar Nath, Field Publicity Officer, Dibrugarh highlighted the aims and objectives of the programme. The programme also included photo exhibition, open quiz competition, prize distribution and distribution of T-shirt to the participants. The other delegates present in the occasion were Smt Mainu Khanikar from Prasiddha (NGO), Akhil Chandra Baruah and Shantanu Bailung from Surjudaya (NGO, Rudreswar Bezbaruah, social activist from Duliajan and others. A NDFB-S rebel identified as Buddhiram Basumatary alias Birkw of Amteka Debrabil in Chirang district was apprehanded from Karigaon area in Kokrajhar by security forces belonging to the Army on Sunday morning.
