15th North East Book Fair from Dec 25

The 15th North East Book Fair wll be held from December 25, 2013 till January 5, 2014 at the Assam Engineering Institute playground, Guwahati. The mega event is being organised by All Assam Publishers & Book-Sellers Association.  

This year's fair would be dedicated in the memory of Late Dr. Deboprasad Barua and Kamaleswar Bora. A seminar has also been organised on their contribution to the education arena of Assam.

On the other hand the temporary auditorium of the book fair would be dedicated in memory of Late Biswajyoti Borkataky of Borkataky Co. of Jorhat and Late Sajol Kanti Bagal Ex. Regional Manager of S. Chand & Co. Kolkata.

Reputed publishing house of India namely British Council, World Book, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Guwahati University Publication Division, Penguin Book India, Viswabharati, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of have confirmed their participation in the fair. Total 140 publishers and book-sellers from Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Siliguri, Ludhiana, Hyderabad, Patna, Agartala, Chennai, Guwahati and North East region would take part in the event.

The Fair would be inaugurated at 1:00 pm on December 25 by the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Eminent writer from Paducherry Saraswati Prize Winner Prof. Monoj Das would be the Chief Guest of the day.

To commemorate the 15th birth anniversary of Rasharaj Laksminath Bezbarua, a unique portrait  on cloth would be drawn with the imprint of palm of the visitors. This would be a unique portrait of Laksminath Bazharua and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika together. On December 26 Super thirty fame Sri Anant Kumar of Patna will have a face to face interaction with the students and book lovers.

There will be a national poets' meet on December 28 with assistance from Sahitya Academy. Poets of the different places would be present in the meet.

The focal theme of this years book fair would be '100 years of Indian Cinema'. On the occasion a seminar 'My Literature My Film' would be held where eminent film personalities of Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, Hindi, Bengal and Assamese would take part. Sctress Suhasini Mulay of Aparupa fame will be present on the occasion.

On January 1, 2014 there would be the Childrens Day. On 2nd January 2014 the day would be observed as North East Day which will be inaugurated by Sri Trupura Chief Minisiter Manik Sarkar.

North East Writers Forum will actively associated January 3, 2014 with a special  session.

A high level enquiry has been initiated against some officials of Assam Transport Department for their alleged involvement in illegally collecting money from trucks. National Youth Awardees from Assam is all set to start a new state level forum to address the issues related to young people in the state. Few meetings were convened in Guwahati to discuss the need of starting a forum in the state.
