Senior IPS officer Khagen Sarma on Friday took over as new director general of police replacing JN Chaudhury who is set to join as NSG director on Saturday.
Chaudhury, the former IB additional IB director handed over the charge to Sarma at a brief function at the Assam police headquarters in the afternoon in presence of top ranked police officials.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi a few days back confirmed Sarma’s promotion as new DGP after the state security advisory council shortlisted his name along with three other senior IPS officers.
