Protesting the candidature of Sanjay Singh in the Rajya Sobha seat from Assam, Nazira sub-divisional and regional units of All Assam Student Union burnt the effigy of the state president of Congress(I)  Bhuveneshwar kalita and Sanjay Singh. Burning the effigies AASU activities shouted  slogans against the state govt. and Congress party.

The 68th Republic Day observed in different places of Nazira Sub division. To resolve the burning issue of Assam-Nagaland border and reduce the tention among the people in the border areas, a harmony meeting was organised at Singibill Bazzar on Friday. The meeting was presideed by social activist Hemo gogoi, MP of Jorhat MP Kamakhya Tasa, DC of Sivasagar Narayan Kunwar, SP A.P.Tewari, SDO(C) Syed Zahid Chisty, SDPO of Nazira Rajendra Ojja, Nagaland Forest Minister  P. Panchak, Ex.MLA Chami Aung, border adviser of Nagaland B. Uthi Phum. To maintain the historic harmony of Assam and Nagaland it was unanimously decided in the meeting to continue and exchange peace dialogue between the two states.
CPI leaders and activists in Nazira joined the statewide protest on Wednesday outlining the issues of price hike,   inflation, Flood and erosion. ULFA(I) virtually scorned the security forces on Monday when the rebels in search of the sovereign Asom exploded a bomb in Charaideo when the district joined the Independence Day on Monday. Forest officials in Sivasagar district captured a leopard which has been creating a reign of terror at a tea garden area in Geleky. Freedom fighter, president of Nazira District Freedom Fighters Association and veteran Congress leader Subha Gogoi breathed his last at his residence at Mazenga on Thursday.
