EMFA condemns assaults on media persons
Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has condemned the unprovoked attacks on some media persons representing different news channels at Kalaigaon of Darang district on Friday. Mentionable is that following clashes between two groups of people, two districts namely Udalguri and Darang have witnessed incidences of violence in the last two days.
It is alleged that some members belonged to All Assam Minorities Students' Union have physically assaulted the local media persons while they were covering the day long bandh there. One camera and other equipments have also been reported to be smashed by the unruly activists.
The EMFA, while urging the district authorities to take note of the incident, also reiterated its demand to enact a law to deal with such a situation.
"The new law should deals with the journalists on duty, where they faces humiliation and also physical assaults in different occasions. Specific laws to support the media persons on duty should work as a deterrent," said the EMFA statement.

All Koch Rajbonghshi Students Union (AKRSU) Bhergaon unit organized a two day long conference of its Women Association at Tangla which ended here on Friday. The programme was inaugurated by Bireswsar Saikia. The programme was attended by Hiteshwar Barman President AKRSU,Jagadish Sarkar EM BTC attended the programme as chief guest.On Thursday a pitha making competition was also held among women's. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Bhanumoti Deka.

A degree student named Chintu Bordoloi , son of late Amrit Sing Bordoloi of kalikajuri village of Morigaon district committed suicide by jumping under the Brahmaputra Mail on August 9 at 10.30 am at Nakhula Grant , 2 km distance from Jagiroad station.
According to family sources, Chintu was studying in Demoria college in degree 1st year and residing in college hostel. They allege that Chintu was tortured under the pretext of ragging at his hostel on the previous night of his death over which he became physically and mentally weak and committed suicide at last. On the otherhand the charge brought by victim's family against the hostel authority denied by the latter. Hostel authority in a statement said that Chintu was not subjected to any kind of torture.

A local resident along the Indo-Bangla border is understood to have committed suicide after he was declared a doubtful voter. He was not given the form for voter photo identity card in Cachar district.
He was identified as Arjun Namasudra, a 32-year old resident of Indo-Bangla border village Haritikar part-I who hanged himself on Friday after a case was filed against him in the Foreigners' Tribunal alleging that he was a doubtful citizen.
Namasudra's wife, Basana claimed that he had got the notice twice from the Tribunal but could not appear as he was a poor daily wage worker and had no money to pay the lawyers.
