EMFA condemns assaults on media persons

Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has condemned the unprovoked attacks on some media persons representing different news channels at Kalaigaon of Darang district on Friday. Mentionable is that following clashes between two groups of people, two districts namely Udalguri and Darang have witnessed incidences of violence in the last two days.

It is alleged that some members belonged to All Assam Minorities Students' Union have physically assaulted the local media persons while they were covering the day long bandh there. One camera and other equipments have also been reported to be smashed by the unruly activists.

The EMFA, while urging the district authorities to take note of the incident, also reiterated its demand to enact a law to deal with such a situation.

"The new law should deals with the journalists on duty, where they faces humiliation and also physical assaults in different occasions. Specific laws to support the media persons on duty should work as a deterrent," said the EMFA statement.
