Govt help denied, strike on

The ABSU and it's allied movement group NDFB-P, PJACBM refused the invitation letter from state government to withdraw the ongoing indefinite hunger strike seeking Bodoland state, which has crossed 100 hours today evening since March 10 in Kokrajhar.

The letter was issued from political and home department of Assam state government, which was reached to agitator group via Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Bibekananda Choudhury in the presence Rajen Singh, SP Kokrajhar. The health condition of the agitators are deteriorate due to strike. A torch rally was organized this evening in support of indefinite hunger strike demanding separate Bodoland state through political dialogue.

The ABSU and movement groups refused to accept the letter which has no any specific mention about scheduling of tripartite talk to the Bodoland issue for which ABSU and it's allied movement groups are taking stern agitation steps. The letter was only requested to withdraw agitation without any clear mention of solution as well measures for Bodoland demands. The ABSU, NDFB-P, PJACBM totally refused the letter and decided to continue its hunger strike till getting responds from Centre over the Bodoland issue.

Hundreds of activists from ABSU, NDFB-P, PJACBM joined hands in the torch rally carried out today in Kokrajhar demanding early creation of Bodoland separate state. The rally was started from near FCI godown along JD Road via fly over and concluded at Kokrajhar Govt HS & MP school ground.

Promod Boro, president of ABSU told that they have refused the letter reached from state government where there is no any clear mention for holding tripartite talk to the Bodoland issue. He said that letter was saw only requested to withdraw hunger strike .

'We totally refused the letter and want direct intervention from Centre over the Bodoland issue . We are continuing our hunger strike for the caused of Bodoland', Boro said.

Choudhury, DC told that the government sent a letter to agitator groups for holding talks, but they refused the letter. He said that chief minister is assessing the hunger strike in Kokrajhar. He said that he has intimated to the state government about ongoing hunger strike seeking solution of Bodoland issue.

Dr J Narzary, health and medical officer, Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital told that health conditions of agitators are going deteriorate due to strike. Most of the agitated members are facing weak health as 100 hours passed so far.

KOKRAHAR: A sense of alarm has gripped the Jharbari area after a timber smuggler was discovered dead in a firing incident during the early hours of the morning in Kokrajhar.
