World Environment Day observed across Assam

Aaranyak celebrated the World Environment Day simultaneously in different locations of Assam with several events on Monday. The programme included audio-visual awareness talk, environmental games, awareness on loss of nature and natural resources due to negative behaviour of human being etc.

In a successful program held at Montfort School, Guwahati, Jayanta Kumar Pathak of Aaranyak conducted an interaction session and presentation on importance of Environment Protection. The recent trend of rhino poaching and involvement of younger generation in such crime is a major cause of concern for the authority. Manas Bhattacharjya of Aaranyak appealed to come forward to assist the authorities in saving the pride of Assam, the one-horned Rhino. A total number of 2200 students and 68 teachers attended this program. Tree plantation program was also conducted within the school campus by Aaranyak members.

To create awareness about environment protection and preservation of Manas landscape on ecological aspect of biodiversity and conservation among people, another successful program was held in Himalee High School at Bhutankhuti in Baska District. The program was started with a rally where all the students and teachers took part in the rally with the slogans on Our Manas Our Pride. Dr. M Firoz Ahmed, Project Manager, Manas Tiger Conservation Program (MTCP), stress on creating a connection with the Nature. An interaction session with students was held to practically convey the message that nature helps us to be sustainable. Sudip Kanta Basistha, Deputy Manager MTCP states that environment is an important aspect of one’s life. It has to be our duty to protect and conserve our environment. Other dignitaries attended the program were- Honorable D.C of Baska District, Block Officer Mr. A. K Brahma, Mr. S Deka, DPO, SSA Baska, members of School Management Committee (SMC) etc. 80 villagers participated in another program organized by Aaranyak at Dolha Chourang of Chirang District. Resource person such as Mr. Sailash Basumatary of Aaranyak, Putul Bhuyan, coordinator Livelihood, MTCP, Aaranyak and Mr. Pranab Kr Das, Range Officer Panbari conducted interaction session and explained about the importance of tree plantation. Also, Aaranyak conducted art competition, plantation etc across 27 schools in Chirang.

In addition to these, World Environment Day was also observed in many areas around Kaziranga. Almost 400 students from schools such as- Rangolu L.P School, Amguri Bagan L.P School, Ayushkar Art School etc. situated in fringe villages of Kaziranga Nationa Park. Aaranyak in collaboration with Forest Department, Kaziranga National Park Authority, Karbialong Autonomous Council, WWF and Corbett Foundation conducted different environment related competitions, art competition, easy competition etc. Along with tree plantation, a nature trail program was also conducted among the students. Dignitaries Rohini Ballave Saikia, DFO, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Puspodhar Burhagohain, Range Officer Burapahar, Arif Hussain of Aaranyak, Uttam Saikia, Honorary Wildlife Warden Kaziranga National Park etc.

Another program to celebrate World Environment Day was organized by Aaranyak in association with Assam Forest Department (Jorhat Forest Division) at Meleng Saiding L.P. School today with the plantation of the fruiting trees in the compound of the school followed by art competition, Slide show cum lecture on Wildlife Conservation and short film show the environment conservation.

Aaranyak celebrated World Environment Day with Jaquar and Architect Fraternity PWD Assam where Dr. Secretary General and CEO of Aaranyak, Bibhab Kumar Talukdar delivered a key note presentation on Managing Green Environment with Green Architectural design. About 15 well known architect of Guwahati city attended the workshop at the Jaquar office in Guwahati. 
Aaranyak’s West Zone team also organized programs on the occasion of World Environment day today at Shankarghol. Programmes were Nature trail in Bhairabsura hill by Aaranyak members, Plantation, Cleanliness drive and Awareness meeting among villager etc.

It is worth mentioning that Aaranyak has been working for the last 27 years on various environmental issues with diverse positive impact on our society. Aaranyak’s tireless efforts have helped in creating a positive scenario in the region’s conservation movement and it has been instrumental in protecting many of the threatened species of the region and their habited through active intervention.
