Cong MLA ill

Congress MLA in Silchar Dinesh Prasad Goala is ailing. Goala, who is undergoing treatment at Silchar Valley Hospital of heart ailment would be airlifted to Kolkata.

According to information, Goala was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathing problem due to heart attack.

Doctors attending on him suggest the family members to rush him to Kolkata for better treatment.

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi turns 82 on Sunday. The octogenarian chief minister is celebrating his birth day at his own official residence at Koinadhara in view of his ailment. Senior Congress leaders, cabinet colleagues, MLAs and party workers visited Gogoi to wish him on his birth day.

Cowhead brews tension in Barpeta

Utter anger grips Bhawanipur area in Barpeta district on Monday a day after miscreants kept a cow head inside a local temple on Sunday suggesting an abortive attempt to create an orgy of communal clash. The incident came to light when a few local residents discovered a cow head inside the Madan Mohan Gosain Than Satra at Banglipara. 

Senior police and civil officials arrived in the spot on receipt of the complaint. With sniffer dogs police tried to trace the miscreants. But nobody has so far been arrested or interrogated in this connection. Local residents vehemently condemned the miscreants and gave the police 24 hours deadline to nab the culprits involved in it.   


Homecoming: AGP sets up panel on unification bid

After years of will-thy-won’t-they, the Asom Gana Parishad has finally stepped into the reunification corridor. In its crucial session concluded on Wednesday night, the party top guns have arrived at a consensus to proceed with the reunification deal. The speakers in the meeting have favoured homecoming of those in the party right from 1985 saying it will help the party regain paradise in Dispur. The meeting set up an 11-member panel to proceed with the reunification bid. The panel consists of Atul Bora, Prabin Gogoi, Girin Baruah, Dilip Saikia, Nurul Hussain, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Padma Hazarika, Keshab Mahanta, Kamala Kalita and Hiranya Knowar while party’s executive president Phanibhusan Chaudhry will be its convener. Notably, several fronts have been demanding reunification of AGP and its breakaway AGP(P) and also the Pubanchaliya Lok Parishad for an united fight in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Speaking to Assam Times, the senior leaders said it will be the best possible way to defeat the Congress and also to strengthen regionalism in the north eastern states.
