Wild elephants unleashing terror

Three houses of two families were  destroyed by wild elephants late last night at Jharbari near Range Office under Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar district along India-Bhutan border.

They victim family said the elephants from the nearby Ripu-Chirang Reserve Forest entered human habitation and damaged houses belonging to Ethimaya Rai and Prakash Pathak. There was, however, no loss of life. Last year, one person died in the village after he was attacked by wild tusker. Experts opined that rampant deforestation and people encroaching on forestland as the reason for increased in man-elephant conflict.

A herd of elephant damage three huts at Genduguri village, a neighboring forest village of Jharbari Forest under Haltugaon Forest Division yesterday evening in Kokrajhar district.  The elephant damage the two huts one kitchen and leaving hut of Ethimaya Rai (40) and another kitchen of Prakhash Pathak also damaged by elephant.
