Flood washes away villages at Patgaon

Floods washed villages and eroded at Patgaon Large numbers of villages,bundh and Mataori under Patgaon police outpost in Kokrajhar district today washed out and eroded by flash flood waters. Residents from six villages like Patgaon Adivasi,Banglajhora,Jharbari west,Raybasti were totally covered with flood waters and take shelter at higher place to safe from flood waters since three days after the water from Saralbangha River waved over danger level,besides the flood water eroded the Saralpara-Patgaon bundh and several hectores of paddy lands are covered with flood water and damaged private properties in the area. Local resident and publics of Patgaon area alleged that concern department has not been taken any step to controll floods in the area of which why today publics have to face hardships and living at relief sheds on the mataory and top areas. ‘We have been demanding protection of bundhs since few years against eroding of Saralbhanga river, northern part of the Patgaon,yet concern department and government do nothing about the problems.The department officials visits the area when flood occurred along the river,which is not suitable moment to take step against the erosion..The protection of bundh and constructions of matory should be initiated during dry season and meet the strong stand to controll wave flood waters’, a flood affected person said. BTC executive member for Flood Control department Mono Kumar Brahma visited the flood affected area this morning and take stock of the situation along with concern departmental officials. He said that flood waters created misery to the villagers of northern part of the Kokrajhar district.He said that his council is tryting to controll flood water and giving relief materials to affected peoples. Over hundred of tripal and tents were distributed among flood affected peoples today besides rations from flood controll department.He said boulder patching and bamboo sparks are made to check wave of the flood waters which have been eroded several villages since last few days. He has also alleged that state govertnment had not giving any support to the council to take step of the floods as council had been demanding release of NLCPR funds and concern resources,but not any funds were reached to the council since three years. He has urged the state and centre government to extend fund supports to the council as several rivers like Sankosh,Saralbhanga,Aie,Beki,Puthimari,Nangal are eroding paddy land and damaged private and public properties in the four districts of council,he added.

Security forces apprehend a NDFB(S) cadre from Basabil area under Gossaigaon PS on Sunday in Kokrajhar district. Based on information about the presence of the militant outfit cadres in the area, a joint team of police and army launched an operation where a listed cadre of Gossaigaon platoon of the NDFB(S) was arrested along with arms.
