WWF Wild Wisdom ends

The Wild Wisdom Quiz, launched by WWF-India in 2008 has emerged as Asia’s largest wildlife quiz competition and the only national level wildlife quiz in India. The Assam City level Wild Wisdom Quiz of WWF-India in association with Ministry of Environment & Forest and Central Board of Secondary Education was held Friday at the Royal Global School auditorium Guwahati.

Some 22 schools from various parts of Assam participated in the quiz. This year 30 cities across India conducted the Wild Wisdom Quiz reaching out to more than 15,000 students. In addition to the Middle School Quiz, a quiz for Junior School (Classes 3-5) and an online quiz for High School (Classes 9-12) were also conducted. Wild Wisdom is a unique opportunity for students to deepen their sense of wonder about the natural world and enhance their knowledge about India’s flora and fauna. The quiz is conducted in 3 levels; the Level 1 is School Level, which enables the schools to send their top 2 scorers to represent their school at the city level. Level 2 is the City Level in which participating schools from each state come together at a venue in their respective cities.

Two top finalists of the WWF Wild Wisdom School level quiz from each school represented their schools in the Assam City level quiz. The quiz started with a preliminary round for both the levels, the junior school and the middle school. The top 5 scorers of each level were selected for the final city level quiz. The finalist schools from junior level who contested in the final round were Maria Public School, Maharshi Vidyamandir, Rajgarh, Don Bosco School Guwahati, Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti and St. Stephen’s School, Guwahati. Thereafter, in a closely contested competition conducted by quizmaster Abhra Das from Quizworks, Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti Guwahati came out as the junior level champion in the Guwahati City Final. The 2nd and the 3rd positions were claimed by Don Bosco School and St. Stephen’s School. Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, Senior Programme Officer of WWF-India’s Assam & Arunachal Pradesh State Office distributed prizes, certificates and trophies to the winners.

The finalists for the middle level quiz were Maria’s Public School, Don Bosco School Guwahati, Sampoorna Kendriya Vidyalaya Dibrugarh, KV Borjhar and St Stephen’s School, Guwahati. Don Bosco School, Guwahati came out the winner and will represent Assam at the National Final to be held in New-Delhi on October 1, 2014 during the Wildlife Week. The top 3 teams of the national final will win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Adventure Nation's Camp Tusker near Rajaji National Park, in the Shivalik Hills. The prized experience will highlight "Forest Biodiversity", the theme of the 2014 Wild Wisdom Quiz.
