Come Thursday. The voice against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 is set to get a major boost. As many as seven organizations are holding a day long discussion on the draconian Act that has been drawing protest across the north eastern region.
Organized by the Centre for Research and Advocacy, Human Rights Alert, Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti, WinG-India, North East Dialogue Forum, Borok People Human Rights Organisation, dozens of social activists and human rights activists have confirmed their participation in the meeting at the Gauri Sadan near Dighalipukhuri.
Prof. Apurba Kumar Barua will open the programme to be participated by Human Rights Alert Executive director Babloo Loitongbam along with Akhil Ranjan Dutta from Gauhati University, Nagaland writer Kaka Iralu, AnjumanAra Begum from WinG-India, JitenYumnam from Human Rights Activist, Centre for Research and Advocacy in Manipur, Sinam Prakash Singh from NESO and lawyer Bijon Mahajan. Fr. Melvine, North East Social Research Centre from Guwahati has also confirmed his participation.
