Gogoi hints at new faces

Face faces are likely to figure in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet which is set to be reshuffled later this month.  This was more or less of what chief minister said in Jorhat.

Talking to reporters in Titabor on Monday, Gogoi said is fully prepared to reshuffle his cabinet with new faces and that he would take up the matter with the party high command later this month. But he refused to divulge anything beyond that.

Four ministers are likely to be inducted in places of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandan Brahma, Dr Ardhendu Dey.

Central Assam Bandh

The All Tiwa Students' Union (ATSU) has called for 36 hour Central Assam Bandh from 5 am on November 5 in protest against the State Government move to hold Panchayat elections in the Tiwa autonomous areas.

It should be mentioned here that four Tiwa organisations including ATSU already called for a ten hour Central Assam Bandh on October 24 last for the said demand.

Women soccer to enthral football lovers

The Narangi based Luitpaar Club has organized a friendly women football match on Saturday (19 August 2017) in the city. The participating teams include the city based Handique Girls' College eleven and Makhibaha Anchalik Krirha Xantha eleven from Nalbari district. The match, to be played at Shastri Maidan in OIL Colony, is scheduled to start at 3 pm.

Budget session resumes on stormy note

The carnage in Kokrajhar, flood, price rise and Hindu refugee issues left the BJP-led government embarrassed when the Assam Assembly resumed its budget session on Monday.

Congress legislators along with their AUIDF counterparts demanded a statement from the Government. Later, AGP members also joined them.

The Opposition tore apart the BJP-led Government alleging the failure of Sarbananda Sonowal who also holds the home portfolio, to ensure safety of the common people.

The session started at 9-30 in the morning which will continue till August 13.
