Food poisoning claims 1

One person died and atleast15 others have taken ill after they consumed food served at a wedding party in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

According to information, Sainudding Sheik from Bhawraguri Usatari village in Gossagaon along with around 20 other people started vomiting and complaint stomach ache hours after they consumed food at the wedding ceremony at Chitila Depdevi village near Fakiragram.

Sheik died in the afternoon at the Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital a day after he was rushed to it. Others with the same complaint have been undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Five of the seriously ill persons have been shifted to Alipurduar hospital for better treatment.

Guwahati: Nearly half a crore/five million people were displaced in devastating flood in Assam. According to 2001 census, the total population of Assam is 2, 66, 38, 407 and floods have displaced about one fifth of the total population. Total 24 districts out of 27 have been hit by outpouring and 3967 villages ravaged, says the Assam Government in an official communiqué. Number of total displaced up to Tuesday morning was 44, 19, 792 but as heavy rain continues the number of people affected are going up rapidly. Though government claims only 15 lives were lost during second spate of flood starting sicne12 July, local news paper published from Guwahati claimed it to be 29 quoting unofficial sources. Total 5, 35, 586 hectors of area submerged, where 1, 55, 604 hectors are crop area. There are reports of breaches in embankments in 52 places. 385 relief camps have been opened and there are 52070 numbers of inmates in those relief camps. 264 temporary shelters have been set up and 209433 no of people are there in these temporary shelters. According to the statement received, total 31009.48 Quintiles Rice, 5460.92 Quintiles Salt, 1432.29 Liters of Mustard oil, 345.02 Quintiles Chira, 237 Quintiles Gur, 36052 sheet Tarpaulin, 749 hand Tube Well, 9494 quintiles fodder and 13.3 Kilo Liter Kerosene oil have been distributed to those affected people

KPLT chief surrenders with arms

In yet another setback for KPLT, the chief of the Karbi militant outfit bade farewell to arms before the authority in Diphu on Thursday.

He is none other than Sarang Kiling  who surrendered before Diphu police with his AK-56 rifle much to the major relief for the security forces.
