The 12 hour Tiwa bandh ended paralyzing normal life on Monday. Called by the All Tiwa Students Union along with five other organizations, the bandh was by and large peaceful in Raha and its adjoining areas Dharamtul, Ahatguri, Barapujia, Phulaguri, and Demow.

Roads remained deserted. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and officers remained closed for the day following the band call bandh demanding Sixth Schedule status to the Tiwa-dominated areas.

Stranded persons return from Coimbatore

Tax collection resumes at Raha toll plaza

Raha: The hue and cry to stop the toll plaza in Raha on the National Highway No 37 has proved to be a futile exercise when NHAI has resumed tax collection from Monday.  That too before the end of the nationwide lock down to keep the killer COVID19 at bay. Raha administration plastic cleanliness drive

NAGAON: As part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's  call during his Independence Day speech to clean up the environment from plastic, the local administration here along with Raha Municipality Board (RMB) on Saturday launched a drive at Raha Toll Plaza along the four-lane highway to clean up the plastic garbage from the area. National Nutrition Month was observed at Raidingia under Khagarijan Child Development Project Office on Wednesday with a daylong programme. The programme held at 485 no. Notorious snatcher held , hand made pistol seized

Nagaon: The Nagaon police today apprehended a snatcher from Bhakatgaon bazar.    Identified as Bilal Uddin of Silongoni village , the apprehended person was involved in a snatching case under Sadar P S.    One hand made pistol was also recovered from the possession of the accused. Meanwhile , police have registered a case in this regard at Nagaon Sadar P S.   The police operation team consisted of Dy SP Manas Saikia , Dy SP ( DSB ) John Das and TSI Gaurab J Mahanta.

Encephalitis toll mounts

Japanese Encephalitis claimed as many as 64 lives in different parts of the state till Tuesday. The number of affected people reached 265 on Tuesday. State Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “In our fight against Japanese encephalitis our field-level functionaries — MPWs, ASHAs and SWs — are doing yeoman service. KMSS burns effigy of PM

Nagaon: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday announced a state-wide effigy burning protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the announcement of not declaring Assam flood as a ‘national issue’. As part of this state-wide protest , the district unit of Nagaon KMSS today burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi at Krishnaikhat on four-lane highway raising slogans against the BJP led government in centre and state. Truck driver arrested for reporting fake hijack

Nagaon: A Guwahati based truck driver and his wife have been arrested for reporting a fake truck hijacking case at the Raha police station , police said here on Sunday. Lakshman Das , officer in-charge , Raha police station told media ANN service that a truck driver Pranjit Kalita on Tuesday morning complained to Raha P S that some miscreants after beating him severely hijacked the truck he was driving from Guwahati to Tinsukia at night in Dighaliati area under Raha P S. Abhi - Neel murder case: Court declares two witness hostile

Nagaon: The Chief Judicial Magistrate court Nagaon declared two witness namely Numal Basumatari and Ujjal Mesh of Abhi Neel case as hostile. Both of the witness changed their earlier statement given in the court and before police' But court accepted their earlier statement and not allowed to change.
