SC slams Centre for border dispute

The Centre on Wednesday drew no less flak from the Supreme Court over the Assam-Nagaland border dispute that hurts both the states at regular intervals. It further asked the Centre to respond within 10 days on the 50 year old issue.

Taking up a 26 year old petition filed by the Assam government on Wednesday, the country’s apex court said that the Centre can’t remain a mute spectator.

A division bench comprising justice T S Thakur, justice Adarsh Kumar Goel and justice R Banumathi, said that the Centre was supposed to act and resolve it. But it has done precious little.

The Centre told the court that the home minister recently held a meeting with the chief ministers of Assam and Nagaland to resolve the border dispute.
