The decline of militant activities is very much in the lips of the government. But all these are tall claims if the facts and figures placed in the Assam Assembly on Monday are any indication.
Forest minister Rockybul Hussain, on behalf of the home department informed the House that 8 militant outfits are still remaining active in the state. These include ULFA-I, NDFB-S, KPLT, KLO, HuM, Multa, Communist Party of India (Maoist) and Jamaat-ul Muzahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Hussain said that 13 militant outfits had signed the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Assam government while the central and state governments had signed Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with three militant outfits.
