Stop influx: SC tells Centre

Stop influx: SC tells Centre

The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Centre to help Assam stop influx from across the border by monitoring border fencing and border road construction.

In its judgment issued after hearing the petition challenging the Section 6A of the Citizenship Act on Wednesday, the country’s apex court referred the matter to the constitution bench and asked the authorities to implement the Assam Accord with respect to border roads, flood lighting and fencing.

The court  has asked Delhi and Dispur to revert back with the progress report within three months from today as to the progress made on these three fronts. The court further has instructed the government to complete the national registration of citizenship in border areas by January 1, 2016.
