Vocational education is education within vocational schools which prepares people for a specific trade. It directly develops expertise in techniques related to technology, skill and scientific technique to span all aspects of the trade. Vocational education is classified as using procedural knowledge. In a bid to promote the idea of vocational education and skill development North East Youth Foundation(NEYF) in association with GODWINS School conducted a talk on ‘Mentoring for Vocational Education and Skill Development’ December 19 at GODWINS School, Sarusajai. Talk was delivered by Ranjan K Baruah, Convener of NEYF. He was focusing on vocational education and its importance. Interacting with the students he told about different opportunities related to vocational education. He was giving an idea of present job scenario in the state of Assam and other north eastern region. There was also focus on the effective use of internet and how it can be used as a tool for skill development. Students also shared their dream profession and their interest apart from regular education. There was also discussion on skills required to be employable or becoming self employed. The programme was inaugurated by Balraj Sinha, Principal of GODWINS School.
Jyotirmoy Borah and Minati Roy Medhi and students of class IX and X and some teachers had attended the programme. Recently there have been many initiatives from government and corporate sector to focus on vocational courses and skill development. Central Board of Secondary Education is also offering nearly 40 vocational courses in different sectors at senior secondary level in collaboration with professional organisations. NEYF shall conduct more of such programme in other schools and colleges in the state and other north eastern region.
