It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

MARGHERITA: Despite a stepped up counter insurgency operations a section of Naga rebels has been unleashing terror along in the form of extortion along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The Assam Rifles jawans on Tuesday held a hardcore NSCN(K) rebel during an operation in Ledo who has been extorting money from a section of people in the area. Acting on a tip off, the army jawans raised the Mullong Village where the rebel was arrested who was identified as Bishnu Bhujel. A pistol along with a few rounds of live bullets was seized from his possession. Later, he was sent to the Ledo police station.
HOJAI: Yet another wild elephant died of electrocution in Hojai on Tuesday sending shock and anger among the nature and wild life activists across the state. The incident took place at Hawaipur where a herd of wild elephants who came down to the human habitates in search of food was electrocuted in the wee hours. GUWAHATI: After a brief silence poaching strikes again in Kaziranga where a full grown rhino was killed on Sunday. The forest guards deployed in Bagori range discovered the carcass hours after the poachers killed it for the horn. But they were believed to have left the spot without chopping off the horn because of the presence of the guards.
Kokrajhar: The local residents of a village in Gossaigaon on Monday recovered the body of a boy who went missing a couple of days ago. The body was spotted at Kursakati Bridge along the Gurufela River who was later identified as Nirmal Sutradhar. Police investigation is going on.
Kokrajhar: Seven wage earners sustained injury when the mini truck on which they were travelling from Bilashipara in Dhuburi met with a mishap in Kokrajhar on Monday. The incident took place in the morning when the Kokrajhar bound vehicle bearing registration no. AS 18A-1526 met with the mishap near Shyamaguri forest on the MK Road. Injured were rushed to hospital. According to police, the driver lost control over his vehicle amid fog before the mishap took place.
NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs has agreed to set up one of its field office in Guwahati. According to information, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj has written to the Assam government asking for land allocation for it in the premier north eastern city. Sources told www.assamtimes.org that the ministry initially plans to set up the office acting on pressure to set up the deputy high commissionerates of the south east Asian nations.

The Assam Chief Minister is contemplating to award job and cash Rs 1 crore to the sportsman for astounding performance in the national and international level.
