It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Scheduled tribe status for six ethnic communities in Assam is unlikely before the Assembly elections polls. The Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) and Assam State Blood Transfusion Council (ASBTC) observed National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Thursday with a flurry of activities.The state level function was organized at International Convention Centre in Guwahati. Welcoming the participants in the meeting, ASACS Project Director Dhiraj Choudhury said, “All healthy persons should come forward to donate blood. ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah’s mother Miliki Baruah passed away at her own residence in Jeraigaon on Thursday. Baruah, who was bed ridden for the last couple of weeks died at around 12 noon. In a move that would encourage the late night commuters in Guwahati, the Assam State Transport Corporation is introducing night services across the city from Thursday. ASTC officials told Assam Times that the corporation initially is running 20 on three arterial routes from 8 at night.“Our buses will ply on the Khanapara round trip covering Panbazar, Adabari, Basistha Chariali while another route will cover from Jalukbari to Khanapara via Adabari-Uzanbazar-Ganeshguri. The third route will cover from the Forest Gate to ISBT via Noonmati, Uzanbazar, Jalukbari,” said an ASTC official. The fares against the night bus service would be 50 per cent more than the existing fare of city buses.
Behali reserved forest has become a safe den for timber smugglers who have been plundering forest resources without any hindrance. One person was killed when the smugglers fired upon a team of guards on Wednesday.  The incident took place in Rongagorah block where the forest guards found an unidentified body with bullet injury mark.
